Outside the Classroom

OOSH Programme

Learning and development doesn’t stop at the classroom door for students at Brooksbank.

We have a wide range of activities that students are encouraged to take part in, serving to enrich and extend their experience of school life.

Please see the links below for the current ‘Out Of School Hours’ activities and programmes that we have on offer for our students:

Brooksbank Music

A thriving secondary school Music Department. We love shouting about our talented students. Sounds from the classroom to the concert hall…Not all of our tracks may be perfect but we believe that Music should be for all to experience and enjoy.

Our Teams

At The Brooksbank School, we are proud of our reputation for playing and winning.  We field teams who compete in a full and varied fixture list which spans all sports.  Brooksbank dominates competitive sports at Calderdale level and we regularly progress and succeed at regional level.  Our success at rugby league is a special source of pride.  In the past five years we have progressed to the national stage in not only rugby but football, netball and gymnastics too.

We are proud to be one of the best rugby league schools in the country.  Since 2009, we have taken eight teams to the national finals and of these; five have won the champion schools’ national title.  In addition to national competitions, we are competitive at county and Calderdale standard across all age groups.  Former Brooksbank players frequently go on to play for professional clubs.  For example, Ben Kavanagh who plays for Wakefield Wilcats and Jacob Fairbank, Chester Butler and Nick Rawsthorne who all play for Halifax RLFC. We also have a number of current students on scholarships at a variety of Super League clubs.

For the last seven years, Brooksbank has taken the highest number of students to compete at national level.  Many of our students represent Yorkshire at national level. We take part in a range of competitions including Yorkshire Schools Sports acrobatics and tumbling and Yorkshire Schools’ floor and vault.  We regularly progress to the national finals in both these competitions and have the highest number of students from our school taking part.

Netball at Brooksbank is a hugely popular sport amongst our girls in all year groups.  Several teams have competed in the national finals over the last few years. On top of local and county success, we regularly enter teams into the National School competitions.  Previous students have gone on to play elite level netball, Imogen Allison is currently representing England Netball at U21 level as well as playing in the Vitality Superleague for Team Bath.

In May each year, our netball girls take part in an international netball tour to Barcelona, Spain.  We have had enormous success and have been crowned champions for the past two years.

This is another area of strength for the PE department. We are competitive in local, county and national competitions. We also have a number of our youngsters on scholarships with local professional teams such as Huddersfield Town, Bradford FC and Barnsley FC to name a few. We run teams for both boys and girls from under 12 to under 19. Last year we also ran an international football tour to Barcelona as well as numerous local and regional fixtures.

We also run teams for Girls Rugby, Hockey, Cycling, Basketball, Athletics, Rounders, Cricket and Tennis.
