There was a fantastic buzz at Open Evening this year as we returned to a pre-pandemic format of exciting activities and three presentations by our Headteacher to facilitate social distancing.
“I just wanted to say how absolutely BLOWN AWAY I was by the energy, passion, creativity, warmth and sense of community on show last night. The Headteacher’s address (including the students and staff who also spoke) was really inspiring and clearly evidenced by everything that followed,” said one parent.
Other hallmarks of Open Evening at Brooksbank were the amazing range of activities taking place across the school.
Every faculty put on a great show of teaching and learning experiences, and the joy on young visitors’ faces was obvious.
There were exciting experiments in Science, mouth-watering cookery demonstrations in Technology, doodle boards and a student show in the arthaus, poetry-writing in English, photoshop fun in IT and lots of fun activities in Humanities. Leading the way were cheery ambassadors from Year 9 who guided visitors around the school expertly, answering questions along the way.
“My child’s highlights were: the art on display in the arthaus, and the work in the textiles room, the pizza and brownies (!) the science activities, especially the Bunsen burner experiments, the sheep hearts, and the van der Graaf generator and the beer goggles in PSHCE!”
“All the teachers and staff who were so patient and welcoming, you made you feel so at home.”
It was fantastic to see so many youngsters from Year 6 engaging with all that Brooksbank offers them from Year 7 onwards. The buildings were still buzzing at the end of the evening – a sure sign of a highly successful event!
“There was a lovely girl from year 11 who was on duty outside the food tech room, who offered to show us to where we needed to go, then guided us for the rest of the evening.”
Thank you to everyone who attended, it was wonderful to meet you all, and we look forward to welcoming you to Brooksbank next year.
