Top children's author spills the tea about how to write a best-seller

It was great to welcome author Phil Earle back to Brooksbank! The 22-books-and-counting author talked to students from 8L in the LRC. They listened intently to Phil's wise words and down-to-earth approach to writing. Students responded with some thoughtful questions in a Q&A session afterwards.

Phil spilt the tea about his reluctance to read books as a teenager, admitting he was more interested in kicking a football around. However, he loved reading graphic novels and named Batman stories a firm favourite. He urged students to read widely, declaring there was much more to read than simply books.

The best-selling author is currently promoting his excellent new book, called While the Storm Rages. It's a thrilling adventure involving a child named Noah, a stolen ark, and a motley crew of animals. Not to mention a crashed Spitfire! The book is the second part of a trilogy of adventure stories.

Phil was introduced by Kevin McCallion, a former Headteacher at Brooksbank. Mr McCallion now owns Thoughtful Spot Children's Bookshop in Skircoat Green, Halifax.
The talk was followed by a lovely book signing, with students eager to get their hands on a copy of Phil's latest adventure in fiction.
