All students have the same curriculum entitlement regardless of ability or need. Teaching and support staff strive to enable students to access the curriculum at all levels. Our main aim is to provide appropriate support for students in mainstream lessons. We have a well-resourced Learning Support Centre where we can meet the needs of students who require one to one support or those who benefit most from working in small groups.
In addition, the Learning Support Team comprises a combination of teaching specialists and learning support assistants. The team has considerable expertise covering a wide variety of needs including working with students with significant learning difficulties, providing sensory support and extra language tuition for students who have English as an additional language and supporting students who are coping with dyslexia. We also have an Education Welfare Officer whose role is to support individual students and work with their families.
The team works closely with members of staff, parents and students to ensure needs are met within the requirements of The Code of Practice and Disability Act. Individual and Group Education Plans are drawn up for all students with special educational needs, which are reviewed at regular intervals with parents and students.
Please contact Mrs Helen Shenton, the school's SENCO if you require further information/advice. See below for the Learning Support Department Handbook 2022-2023 where you will find our offer of provision.
