We are thrilled to report that Year 11 student, Alex Ainley, has been nominated for a West Yorkshire Wonders Award.  Entrepreneurial Alex has been fundraising for Overgate Hospice since she was tiny and she has recently found clever ways to continue fundraising during lockdown.

The Pulse radio nominee has been volunteering for Overgate since she was seven years old, and she has worked on of the hospice’s charity shop since the age of fourteen.  Alex’s fantastic spirit has also seen her volunteer at the hospice during the holidays, where she has helped day-care patients take part in activities including crafting.

As mentioned earlier, Alex has not let coronavirus stand in her way.  During lockdown she simply switched her efforts to baking and delivering her tasty treats to patients!  In another enterprising step, Alex has created a sale on her driveway to sell a wide array of household items.

Head of Year 11, Neil Verdeyen said, “I’m sure you will agree that Alex is doing a fantastic job and this is another example of how people within our school community have pulled together to help others in these exceptional times,” said

You can vote for Alex to win the Wonder Fundraiser award by following this link.

This will land you on Pulse Radio’s West Yorkshire Wonders web page.  Scroll down until you see a picture of Alex’s packed driveway.  It only takes a minute to vote, but be sure to do it before May 27th (when voting closes).

People have been getting in touch with donations and so far, over £1,300 has been raised.  Making a donation is also quick and easy to do and will support Alex’s fantastic efforts.

Congratulations on all your wonderful achievements so far Alex, and fingers crossed for the Wonder Fundraiser Award.  We’re rooting for you!
