Welcome from the Headteacher

Dear Parent / carer,

I would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your child from The Brooksbank School and thank you for considering us as your school of first choice. I am privileged to have been appointed as Headteacher from September 2020 and I am both excited and enthusiastic about what the future holds for all of us who are now part of the family. I know, and understand, that you and your child will be at times apprehensive about deciding which school you should choose for the next step in their education but I can reassure you that The Brooksbank School is full of staff and students who will make the journey and transition as smooth and easy as possible. Rest assured that despite this being a time of change for everyone, the skills and experiences of the school and its staff will help your child quickly settle into normal school life here, should you make us your first choice.

You are coming at a time when ‘normal’ is totally different to what we had all expected and the school, over the latter half of the academic year, has undergone significant change and adaptation, to firstly ensure the safety and welfare of all staff and students whilst giving everyone the best possible education. These changes will continue to be reviewed and adapted in order to offer your child the best opportunity to succeed and achieve their full potential until such time as ‘normality is resumed’.

As a school that serves not only its local, but also the wider community, we strive to ensure that we give your child the best learning experiences possible, which will give them the skills necessary for preparation not only into further education in 6th Form, but through into university and ultimately into the world of work. It is our belief that every child can progress and achieve and we make no excuses for having high aspirations and expectations of our students. We have no doubt that they will be both happy and successful whilst they are with us.

You as parents / carers will understand that this however, cannot be done in isolation and we would encourage you to play a full part in your child’s education and undertake a positive and pro-active role in supporting them and the school in order to make this happen. Support for your child and the school on issues such as attendance, uniform, behaviour, home learning and attitude to learning is a partnership that we need to develop with you and is of paramount importance for the success of your child.

The staff here at The Brooksbank School are fully committed to giving your child the best possible opportunities to achieve their ambitions, whatever they may be. Whilst we cannot yet meet ‘face to face’, the information being sent out to you today via the school prospectus and the video links on the school website, is an opportunity for you and your child to get an insight into all aspects of life at The Brooksbank School and remotely ‘meet’ some of the staff who will play a key role in starting them on their road to success as well as gauging the quality of education they will receive here.

I would ask that you and they take full advantage of this information to find out as much about The Brooksbank School as you can. This may well focus on the academic opportunities, but should also be about the varied enrichment activities available to your child outside of the classroom such as sports teams, drama productions, extra-curricular clubs, residential trips and visits and much, much more…

Any questions or queries you may have, please do not hesitate to contact the school. I would remind you that the preference application needs completing by 31st October and ‘registering’ with the Local Authority and details of this process can be found using the LA website or contacting their admissions team.

I look forward to you choosing The Brooksbank School as your school of first choice.

Mr A Taylor
